π Calling all AAC Users and Supporters! π
It’s that time of the year again, where we come together to celebrate AAC Awareness Month in October 2023! This year, the theme is “Say what? Sharing your most memorable moments with AAC.” But what exactly does this mean, and how can you get involved? Let’s dive in and explore the opportunity to share your AAC journey and make a difference in the community.
Why Share Your AAC Story?
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a powerful tool that empowers people with communication difficulties to express themselves, connect with others, and be included in society. It’s a lifeline for many people, but behind every AAC user, there is a unique journey filled with experiences, challenges, and triumphs.
By sharing your AAC story, you can:
π Inspire Others: Your journey can inspire and motivate others who are just beginning their AAC journey or facing similar challenges.
π Raise Awareness: Your story can help raise awareness about the importance of inclusive communication and the transformative impact of AAC.
π€ Build a Supportive Community: Sharing your experiences fosters a sense of community among AAC users and their supporters, creating a network of people who understand and support one another.
π Highlight Helpful Resources: You can share valuable insights, tips, and resources that have been instrumental in your AAC journey, potentially making life easier for others.
How to Share Your AAC Story?
We want to hear from YOU! Whether you use AAC yourself or support an AAC user, your story matters. Here’s how you can get involved:
π₯ Record a Short Video: Grab your smartphone and record a video (maximum 2 minutes) sharing:
- How AAC has made a difference to you or the AAC user you support.
- Your experiences with using AAC in daily life.
- Any advice you have for people beginning their AAC journey.
- Any support or resources you find helpful in using AAC effectively.
π§ Send Your Video: Email your video to ddwa@ddwa.org.au or DM us on social media with the video attached.
π¬ Have Questions?: If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to ddwa@ddwa.org.au, and our team will be happy to help.
ποΈ Act Now: Please send in your recorded stories ASAP. We’re excited to share them in our feed soon.
π Make a Difference: Don’t miss this chance to share your AAC story and contribute to a more inclusive community.
πππ We look forward to hearing from you!
