Two new and groundbreaking post-graduate certificate courses at Curtin University are set to transform the landscape of disability support in 2024.
Positive Behaviour Support: Extending Understanding, Shaping Empathy
Curtin University’s graduate course in Positive Behaviour Support is an opportunity for those working in the disability sector to deepen their understanding of people experiencing behaviors often labeled as concerning. This innovative program draws upon contemporary perspectives and lived experiences, collaborating directly with people with disabilities and their advocates. Through this collaboration, it shapes a high-level understanding of behavior support planning, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic approach.
Complex Communication Needs: Fostering Inclusive Communication
The Graduate Certificate in Complex Communication Needs (CCN) course is tailor-made for passionate people seeking to become proficient communication partners for those with little or no speech – people with communication disabilities. The curriculum delves into the intricacies of establishing person-centered communication systems that enhance interaction for both children and adults requiring additional communication support.
For professionals in the disability sector (especially, but not limited to) – as well as education and community service sectors – this is a golden opportunity to amplify your knowledge and skills in improving communication accessibility – a fundamental human right.
Communication is a Right
Effective two-way communication is a fundamental human right. It’s a responsibility that everyone shares, particularly when people face complex communication needs. This conviction echoes through the co-design of these courses in partnership with Microboards Australia Ltd and DDWA’s esteemed Communication Educator and disability communication expert, Laura Jones.
Applications are open now for Semester 1, 2024. We encourage you apply before the 7th of December, 2023.
