Simplify your communication materials – create clear, easy to understand materials.
We’re thrilled to introduce our latest resource: the “How to Make Easy Read Books” booklet.
Easy Read is a a special way to make information easier for people with intellectual disability to understand. It’s also great for people from CaLD backgrounds, those with poor literacy, and older Australians.
Easy Read materials are documents that use simple language, images and clear formatting to make information easier to understand for many people in the community.
DDWA has developed a template (editable Word document) that can be used as a guide to help you make your own Easy Read documents.
The template is an example only, and outlines the most commonly used tips that you can follow to create your own materials.
You can use this free editable template as a guide or adapt the template to meet your own needs. It allows personalisation with your logo and customisation of images and words for your message.
We encourage you to share this resource widely, so that more people can understand the importance and make Easy Read materials for people who need easy to understand documents.
It takes time and practice to learn how to make good easy read documents.
DDWA has developed training to support organisations and businesses to get started. Easy Read workshops have run in Novemeber 2023 and February 2024, with further dates planned. [edited Feb 2024]
