AAC – from both communication-partner and AAC user’s point of view

Are you aware that people communicate in a variety of ways. If someone has little or no speech, they may need you to be more observant and offer alternative ways to exchange messages.

Violet and her mum, Janet, share their AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) story.

Violet is a person with communication disability and uses AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). She uses both print and electronic AAC, as well as her voice and movement of her left arm in a way that is understood to indicate yes and no.

a vLog more than a blog: watch the video to see and hear Violet communicate with DDWA’s communication educator, Laura Jones.

In this video, Violet demonstrates how she communicates using a variety of methods.

Violet’s mum, Janet, also joins us here to tell of her own journey with AAC:

⭐️ supporting Violet as an AAC user

⭐️ the process of learning more about AAC use

⭐️ the amazing ability to engage people and build trust through better use of AAC with others,

⭐️ as well as some barriers.
