Transport: NEW web page – focus area – Helping people with disability, their families and supporters, know what resources and supports are available when using different kinds of transport.
We all love to have the freedom to get around and travel – and to have knowledgeable people around us when we need support with transport. Whether it’s meeting friends just a few bus stops away, heading to an event via taxi or Uber, or discovering new countries by plane, transportation helps us get out and about and gives an opportunity for adventures.
We’re excited to introduce DDWA’s new “Transport” web page! This resource offers valuable information on traveling by planes, trains, cars, and taxis, both locally and beyond.
People with intellectual and developmental disability, including Autism, can face challenges when using different kinds of transportation. We make it easy to understand and use different services, whether they’re local, state, or national.
There are also many services in the community that can help people with intellectual disability with transport, and this new web page lists a few courses and supports.
For example: did you know that there is a “Transport Mentor Course”? It’s available through Transperth. Public transport can help everyone connect with community and be independent. While accessibility across the Transperth network is improving, not all stations and bus stops are the same. Careful planning is required when working with people with diverse needs on the Transperth network.
The information on our new Transport web page aims to help people with disability, their families and supporters, know what resources and supports are available when using different kinds of transport, and how to make independent travel, easy, safe and enjoyable.
