DDWA and D-Dads have joined forces to advocate for people with developmental disability and their families.
D-Dads, a growing group of dads in leadership roles throughout Western Australia with a family member living with an intellectual disability, aims to raise the profile of disability and promote inclusion for all. Through personal and professional networks, D-Dads share their stories and identify opportunities to achieve their purpose.
The group is actively seeking new members to join their cause and make a difference in the lives of those affected by disability. Contact ddads@ddwa.org.au to express your interest in joining. More information follows…
Letter from D-Dads’ Convenor
You may have heard of D-Dads and maybe not. Well, we are a growing group of dads in leadership roles throughout WA who have a family member living with an intellectual disability. Our sons and daughters are our driving force to raise the profile of disability and especially for our invisible and voiceless family members and their peers and ourselves – their carer parents and family members.
Bruce Langoulant AM, D-Dads Convenor
We share a common goal to influence better awareness for the less obvious people living with disability in WA – and there are many – and we want to represent them to achieve better outcomes in life for them.
D-Dads is growing but remains a voluntary common interest group. We have a Charter and a Convenor and have been meeting on an ad hoc basis for over two years. We have also agreed an MOU with DDWA to provide office and administration support and access to meeting facilities.
D-Dads and DDWA are closely aligned in our missions which has drawn us together. To understand D-Dads a bit more please search for us on LinkedIn and Facebook. You will meet some of our dads there!
D- Dads is recruiting as well. If you would like to express an interest in joining D-Dads, we would welcome your contact by emailing us at ddads@ddwa.org.au and tell us a bit about yourself and your career and family connection to DDWA.
As we grow, we intend to meet every six weeks from 12.30 – 2.00 pm on Thursdays in the city or close by to introduce each other and attract new members and share the focus of our current and agreed new campaigns. D-Dads has access to voluntary high-level media and comms advice amongst our ranks.
Thank you to Mary and the DDWA Board and we look forward to growing the D-Dads presence with your interest and support.
