Do your front-line staff feel confident interacting with customers who have a communication disability or difficulties?
This highly practical, face to face workshop will help your team to:
- Accommodate different communication styles
- Feel able to support successful two-way communication
- Create a more inclusive and welcoming environment
- Help improve the accessibility of your recreation and leisure facilities and services
- Enable customers with communication difficulties to make use of and enjoy the leisure facilities and recreation activities or services on offer
- Learn about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) using a specified tool or appropriate gestures to help those who are communicating in ways other than spoken English
- Better meet your Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) goals

PRESENTER – Laura Jones
This workshop will be led by Laura Jones, communication consultant for DDWA, a lecturer for 8 years in complex communication needs to postgraduate teachers and therapists at Edith Cowan University. Laura has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with you. A guest speaker will share their perspectives with lived experience of communication disability.
