16 February 2024: a get together event – informal, welcoming, supportive and full of shared memories, experiences and emotions. This is for parents, carers, and familiy members whose disabled child (or adult) or person they cared for has passed away.
9:30-11:30am at DDWA’s location, West Perth (City West Lotteries House).
Our inaugural “Living After Loss” get-together was held late 2023. The rollercoaster of ongoing grief and heartfelt memories was shared around tissues, as well as loving laughter and warm cuppas.
It went so well that we’re holding regular gatherings like this. All are welcome. New comers. Those who have joined before. Come once, or join the group at all opportunities.

Other dates to be annouced throughout the year.
If you’ve lost someone you love who lived with a disability and would like to join us, email ddwa@ddwa.org.au with your interest to join our group.
You may not know what you need to unload and talk about until the day arrives and you sit amongst people who ‘get you’ and the grief and joyful memories. You may simply like to just sit and listen.
It’s interesting that everyone shared how the joy of living was also full of some cyclical grief for what life could’ve / would’ve / might have been like if… — and then the emotions of emptiness that is for some so bottomless after the person with disability that you loved and cared for has passed away.
A really moving and comforting moment was shared. And we plan to provide this safe space and time for anyone who would like to join and share or be with others who have and are experiencing something similar.
All are welcome.
No judgement.
We’re in this together.
