DDWA Family Partner acknowledged in Australian of the Year nominations

Developmental Disability WA’s Family Partner, Jaqueline Mills, was one of four West Australians nominated for the 2018 Australian of the Year award.

The nomination acknowledges Jaquie’s years of advocacy for:  people with complex disabilities in developing the Microboard model of support; inclusive education; access to health services; alternative and augmentative communication; and eliminating the use of restrictive practices.

Jaquie also partners with DDWA in advocacy and development in areas such as education and people with complex communication needs.

“DDWA’s commitment to empowering people with disability and their families to be a strong voice on the decisions affecting their lives has been invaluable to me and my family and so many others,” she said.

“DDWA is there for families when no-one else is and doesn’t allow people who are complex to fall through the cracks.”
