Do you need help to make Easy Read materials?

DDWA offers coaching support to help you build skills and confidence to make your own Easy Read materials.

What is an Easy Read?

Easy Read is a way of making written information easier to understand for many people in our community. 

Easy Read materials use:

  • short sentences
  • simple language
  • clear images to explain the text

We offer coaching support so you can :

  • Turn hard to read documents into Easy Read materials like a flyer or booklet
  • Make a new Easy Read about any topic you choose
  • Review and test your Easy Read materials
Coaching can help you to:
  • Choose easy to understand words when converting difficult text
  • Decide what pictures to use
  • Use an Easy Read format

Our goal is to help you build the skills you need to make your own Easy Read materials. 

How much does coaching cost?

One on one coaching online or in person at our DDWA office :$100.00 per hour (plus GST)

Small group coaching with your team can be arranged.  Please discuss your needs with Leticia.

*We usually find that one or two hours of personalised coaching is enough to give you the support and resources you need to make your own Easy Read materials.

How do you know if your Easy Read is helpful?

DDWA can arrange for your Easy Read to be tested by 4 people with intellectual disability.

Time needed is dependent on the length of the document and can be discussed before booking.

Simple document: $200 (plus GST and coordination of testing)
Complex document: $400 (plus GST and coordination of testing )

*Coordination and support of testing process is charged at $100.00 per hour (pus GST)

Follow these steps to register your interest in coaching

  1. Choose a document you want to turn into an Easy Read, or a topic for a new Easy Read.
  2. You can also choose an Easy Read that you have already made, and that you would like some feedback on.
  3. Email or call Leticia to talk about your Easy Read project and the help you are looking for.

DDWA has developed an easy to follow  template that can be used as a guide to help you make your own easy read documents.

The template outlines commonly used tips that you can follow to create your own materials.

You can use this free editable template as a guide or adapt the template to meet your own needs.

It takes time and practice to learn how to make good Easy Read documents, the important things is to start today.  Easy Read materials make a big difference in helping people with intellectual disability or low literacy levels access your information and services.
