July 2026 Update: Self managing an NDIS plan

This FAQ contains updated information about self managing an NDIS plan.

If you directly engage with support workers then this information might be helpful at the end of the financial year. There are certain legal obligations that must be met every financial year. If you are an employer of support workers then this information will help you. All these links are direct to ATO website and, or the NDIA website..

What are the changes to the ATO free Superannuation clearing house (SBSCH)?

From 1 July 2026 you will no longer be able to use the ATO Superannuation Small Business Clearing house for your Super payments. You will need to ensure you have another superannuation platform (clearing house) to make these payments. Check first to see if your current payroll software can assist with this. What is Payday Super?

The way you pay Superannuation is changing from 1 July 2026. You were able to process superannuation guarantee payments every quarter for your employees. However, this has now changed. You need to pay superannuation within 7 days of paying your employee’s wages, this to ensure that people are receiving their superannuation payments to their choice of superannuation fund in real time. End of Financial Year Summary Statements to the ATO

If you are an employer, then you have some legal obligations and you will need to submit Payment summaries annually to the ATO office. You may have a payroll software that creates these payment summaries for each worker. Each worker should receive a copy of their payment summary report to show their wages and tax withheld in the financial year. The ATO also needs a copy of these PAYG withholding payment summaries and a payment summary statement to show your total wages for all of your employees for the entire financial year. To find out more about his please go to the ATO website:

WPN Holders and Single Touch Payroll

WPN is a Withholding Payer Number. STP is Single Touch Payroll. The ATO has exempted WPN holders from Single Touch Payroll but if you choose to report STP from 1 July 2026 you will need a registered tax agent to do this on your behalf. WPN holders are exempted from STP until 30 June 2033. For more information about this see the ATO link:

SIL registration

Supported independent living (SIL) is funding for a support worker to help you for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The NDIA introduced mandatory registration for SIL (Supported Independent Living) providers and also announced that families/ participants who are rostering, managing and training their own staff will NOT be classified as a SIL provider and would not fall under this registration. For more information about this:

Price Schedule

The NDIS pricing schedule sets out information about what they consider to be the appropriate and reasonable maximum prices for all NDIS supports. The NDIA releases a pricing schedule with updated pricing and this new pricing schedule starts from 1 July 2026. Participants get an indexation in their current plan. This only applies to the funding items that you have in your current plan and were increased in the pricing schedule. The pricing schedule is here:

Pricing arrangements | NDIS

This is a guide for NDIS registered providers. The maximum price guide rate is set in the NDIS price guide (price limits and arrangements). Registered providers cannot charge you more than the rate which is set in the price guide for particular categories. There are different rates depending on weekday/ weekends, public holidays. You can negotiate rates depending on your circumstances. If you have independent support workers you would not be paying the maximum rate for those workers. You will negotiate a rate with independent workers. This will be based on their responsibilities and roles.

STA and STR changes

STA is Short Term Accommodation. STR is Short Term Respite. There are guidelines for this. The guidelines explain what you can claim for. These include your accommodation, personal care, and the support you need to take part in community, cultural or social activities. This means NDIA won’t fund the activities themselves.

There were some changes to how this is funded in the new pricing schedule from 1 July 2026. There is a claimable amount for support workers and a claimable amount for accommodation.

Do I need to have workers compensation insurance if I have independent support workers?

In WA, you must have workers compensation insurance for support workers, whether they are independent contractors or employees. You can claim this cost from your NDIS funding because it is related to engaging independent support staff. To arrange cover, contact an insurer such as Allianz, QBE, CGU or GIO. If you are self-managed or plan-managed and have difficulty claiming workers compensation insurance, please contact DDWA.
