What is the Friendship Project?
The Friendship Project is about making and keeping friends.
DDWA staff worked with people with intellectual disability to create the videos and Easy Read publications that are now available as part of "The Friendship Project".
The group talked about lots of things.
- Why it is important to have friends
- What makes a good friend
- What makes a bad friend
- How to keep a friend
And then:
- Shared their ideas about friendships.
- Helped to make videos
- Made artwork to put in the videos
- Helped DDWA make decisions about the project.
Some things people said about friendships
When you meet someone new you could ask them questions. Do you want to go out for food. What do you like to eat? They could be vegetarian and you don’t know unless you ask them.
Sometimes it can be difficult to make friends because I’m shy and I’m scared of rejection. I like the other person to make the first move'... I find it difficult to find the right words to say.
I made a new friend at horse riding classes. We went to have coffee.
We made videos about friendships from people's ideas
Some people from the project...
- were actors on the videos
- talked on the videos
- made artwork for the videos
