THESE WORKSHOPS HAVE BEEN FUNDED BY THE NON GOVERNMENT CENTRE SUPPORT FOR NON-SCHOOL ORGANISATIONS PROGRAM How to teach children Body Safety & Abuse Prevention A WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS & CARERS Children with disability are more at risk of abuse than other children. Do you know what you would do in a situation where your child disclosed information about abuse or they told you one of the other children had really rude photos’? Often parents don’t want to think about dealing with a situation like this because it’s scary and they hope it won’t ever happen to their child. What would you do? Are you confused about how to teach your child to be wary of potential harm, without overloading them with fear, wrapping them in cotton wool, or giving them so much information that their innocence is damaged? Would you know what tried and true steps to take in the event a situation occurred? In this workshop, Holly will explore Protective Behaviour Concepts including: Theme reinforcement OK to say “no” Yes/Safe/Comfortable feelings No/Unsafe/Uncomfortable feelings Three safety questions Secrets Safety continuum Secret enablers Risking on purpose Cyber safety Early warning signs Safety team Protective interrupting Persistence One-step removed Public and private Problem solving All attendees will receive a FREE copy of Holly’s guide for parents
